First there was the medical genius Dr. Nathan S. Davis, who founded the American Medical Association (AMA) in 1847, following that up with the co-founding of Northwestern Medical School, to eventually become the first editor of Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

100+ years later, motion picture mastermind John Hughes cemented his place as a local legend, shooting a bevy of classic film scenes in and around Evanston, led by Major League, Uncle Buck and the classic coming-of-age movie, Sixteen Candles. Pretty cool.
